Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia delivered the keynote address at the Newhouse School’s Toner Prize Ceremony March 26, 2018, in Washington, where a team of reporters from The Washington Post was awarded the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Journalism, and two reporters from The Arizona Republic earned an honorable mention. At the ceremony, the Newhouse School also recognized The Post and The New York Times for coverage of Russia’s ongoing efforts to corrupt the U.S. electoral process.

The Toner Prize is given annually by the Newhouse School in memory of late alumna Robin Toner ’76, who was the first woman to serve as national political correspondent for The New York Times.
