“Twin films” is the term used to describe a peculiar Hollywood phenomenon that just about every year sees different major studios releasing movies with almost identical plots and themes to their competitors current offerings. Popular examples of twin films include Deep Impact and Armageddon, two films released within weeks of one another that centred around saving the world from a giant meteor. Other popular examples include A Bug’s Life and Antz – animated films about ants rebelling against their hive. Then there’s Dante’s Inferno and Volcano – both of which are disaster films about volcanic eruptions. (As an idea of how common this is in Hollywood, all of these films were released between 1997 and 1998.)

Olympus has fallen was a superior movie to White house down.
What about Dr. Strangelove and Fail Safe (1964)?
Was Hans Grubber your uncle? You seem to have a hatred for Die Hard.
This happens all the time in porno. Your Mass In My Ass #58 was released a week right after Weapons of Ass Destruction #42. Identical plots too!!! Sometimes even the same actress…
One thing left out is the practice of script sharing or script stealing. A writer will come up with an idea, write a screenplay and try to pitch it to various studios. They like the story but not how it was told. So they get their own people to tell the same story their way.
Everything is a Remix (2015): https://topdocumentaryfilms.com/everything-remix/
Willis' last Die Hard movie will be called, "Old Habits Die Hard" where terrorists take over a retirement community trying to kidnap some rich schlep, of which, Bruce Willis is a resident.
Wait! Wait! Hollywood has a new theme for their movies!
White bashing and black supremacy.
There were 3 Columbus films that came out at the same time. The third was 'Carry On Columbus' which was the only one of the 3 to make it's money back in cinemas.
You forgot Deepstar Six and Leviathan.
You missed the biggest "Twin Films" of all time Westerns
Another great video from TIFO.
There's at least one additional source for the "twin film" phenomenon. Often in Hollyoood, a writer will pitch either just an idea, or a full screenplay to studio exectutives. Being the malevolent and (at least) two-faced slimy turds they are, the execs will often reject the author's screenplay or idea to his or her face, but then turn around and make a virtually identical product. It's almost impossible to prove, and it happens all the time.

Don't forget the triplets Deepstar Six, Leviathan, and the Abyss.
*Dante's peak, not inferno
Trends in movies …. Ie monster moves in 50s disaster movies in 70s
Yey or nay on movie subjects?
Robin Hood is just like the studio abuse of Sherlock Holmes. There is nothing more they can do with Robin Hood that the Erroll Flynn film from 1938 didn't do. I don't want a CGI version of Robin Hood. I don't want a robin hood with stunt casting or an improved, "relevant" story. If you want to top the 1938 version, go back to the original source material from centuries ago and put it on the screen. Don't know what that entails? Then give Robin Hood and rest and come up with your own damn idea for a film.
I remember in 1993 when two Wyatt Earp movies were released, Tombstone and Wyatt Earp.
Can you make a video with out moving your hands
Taken, The Foreigner, John Wick, and that upcoming Bruce Willis film… All family men that go out to kill various Europeans for killing their loved ones. Fuck this genre.
I wondered that when right after Black Swan, Natalie Portman's next movie was 'No Strings Attached' and Mila Kunis's was 'Friends With Benefits' and they came out very near to each other. Seemed ridiculous to me.
Challenge: present an original idea here, go;
Speaking of, a new remake of Mutiny on the Bounty would probably be pretty dope.
Simon polished his head properly for this video
Yaay hollywood
huh, twin youtube ads inside a video about twin movie releases – inconceivable
Olympus has fallen and White House Down are exactly the same film. I call it "White Olympus House Has Fallen Down."
Pro tip: wear a v-neck undershirt so you can't see it.
In 2000 there was movie called "The red planet" about astronauts colonizing Mars. Also in 2000, there was a movie with a similar theme called "Mission to Mars".
Another set of twin films I remember but never saw either. One was Abraham Lincoln the vampire slayer but I can't seem to remember the other one.
what about London falling?. that makes 3
No mention of 'Churchill' and 'Darkest Hour'?
Dantes peak and vulcano not inferno
Mac & Me and E.T. Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached
I’ve seen cheddar before…….. IT IS BASICALLY NOTHING LIKE THIS CHANNEL !!!!!!!!
Fail Safe and Dr Strangelove… Twin films based on twin books (Fail Safe and Red Alert).
You are quite the hand talker.
The so called discovery!? So, if america is not discovered, what are then the indians complaining about!?
It's not easy to write an original idea… my book (Embracing Xolo) is meant as a cautionary tale for parents who chose to ignore when their children face a huge obstacle in life… my other book (Fancy Furever) is more of a sweet story … so Fancy does much better than Xolo with the audience… so in numbers it is hard not to select one option that pays the bills vs the other one …
Literally cinema sins did a video called everything wrong with
Olympus White has house fallen down . They reviewed them at the same time
why is everyone creating cinematic universes?
can't they just agree to make movies that are not related at all with the others from the same company?
Why do they say Filipinos sing well (even if it is not true?)
Fun fact, Simon: The protagonist of "Nothing Lasts Forever" is actually either 70 years old or in his seventies in the book. So at least age-wise it would have made more sense for seventy-three year old Sinatra to play the protagonist in "Die Hard" insteasd of then much younger Bruce Willis. And of course the protagonist of both "The Detective" and "Die HArd" would have been portrayed by the same actor in both films.
Accidentally paused at 0:03. Can't be unseen.
Dodge and Chrysler DID go dutch on a car model. Its called the Neon and its complete shit. There is a cult following for the turbo version, the SRT4,. But its pretty much garbage too as far as parts quality and design goes.
Dante's Peak.
